I am Jennifer Wanzina, co-founder of Fidex Car Hire & Safaris Ltd. For over two decades, my family and I have been dedicated to connecting travelers with Kenya’s landscapes through reliable car hire services. But behind the wheels, my true passion has always been people and the environment.
Living close to Kenya’s mangrove forests, I witnessed both their beauty and their fragility. I knew that protecting these ecosystems meant empowering the communities who depend on them. From 2020 to 2023, I worked with local families and associations to plant over 10,000 mangrove seedlings. We didn’t just restore forests — we created livelihoods. By purchasing seedlings directly from the community and supporting them to nurture the trees, we ensured conservation was tied to dignity and income.
Our journey didn’t stop there. We funded beekeeping trainings, opening new opportunities for families to produce pure organic honey. And because I believe transformation begins with young minds, we launched a book club to spark curiosity, learning, and bigger dreams among children.
It was through these connections — planting trees, sharing stories, tasting honey, and watching children discover new worlds — that the idea for Community-Based Safaris was born. I realized that travel could be more than sightseeing, it could be Safaris beyond the wild into the communities It could be a bridge: between visitors and hosts, between conservation and livelihood, between adventure and purpose.
Today, our safaris invite guests to step into this story. To explore hidden, gems sanctuaries conservancies like Rukinga or taita hills, to stay in homestays, to join hands in grassroots projects, and to leave Kenya not just with memories, but with a sense of impact.
For me, community-based safaris are not just tourism. They are a way of life — a chance to ensure that every journey creates memorable experiences, protects wildlife, uplifts families, and inspires transformation on both sides.
This is why I am passionate about community-based safaris: because they honor the land, empower the people, and create travel that truly matters.
